Travel Advice Europe
According to recent news reports, a number of governments globally are advising their citizens to be vigilant when traveling in Europe as a result of an increased risk of terrorist activity.
While no government is advising against travel, travelers are advised to be extra aware of their surroundings and take appropriate steps to ensure their personal security. These alerts do not single out specific countries in Europe as higher risk but said public-transportation services and other tourist infrastructure are possible targets.
Recommendations for Travelers and Travel Bookers
- Travelers are advised to pay attention and to monitor local news reports
- Travelers should communicate any changes in a traveler’s status and / or location to the company’s travel manager.
- In an emergency, travelers are encouraged to follow the guidance of local authorities.
Recommendations for Travel Managers
- Share the "Recommendations for Travelers and Travel Bookers" with your employees as appropriate.
- Double-check your Travel Alert urgency levels to ensure you are getting the latest updates on this situation.
- Compile a list of travelers who may be impacted by this situation. This will assist us in understanding the location of your travelers and making alternative travel arrangements if needed.
- Stay in regular contact with travelers who are travelling in this region, and forward them any e-mail updates you receive from AEBT.
- Encourage travelers to check local news.

Secure Flight passagerarinformation
Efter meddelande till alla flygbolag från TSA (Transportation Security Administration) i USA måste alla resenärers bokningar som innefattar någon amerikansk stad eller går genom amerikanskt luftrum innehålla fullständig Secure Flight-passagerarinformation (SFPD). Detta gäller från och med den 1 november 2010. TSA godkänner inga bokningar som gjorts utan fullständig SFPD-information och om sådana gjorts får flygbolagen betala böter.
Vissa flygbolag har meddelat att de kommer att börja kräva SFPD-information redan den 15 september 2010. Därför måste resenärerna tillhandahålla American Express Business Travel med all SFPD (namn, kön och födelsedatum) när de bokar biljett.
Det bästa sättet att försäkra sig om att SFPD-informationen är korrekt och att den finns med i resebokningen är att kontrollera att informationen som krävs är aktuell, korrekt och fullständig:
- Tillhandahålla Secure Flight-passagerarinformation:
När resenärerna bokar en resa ska de tillhandahålla följande obligatoriska information (fullständigt namn, kön och födelsedatum). Vidare ska resenärerna vara beredda att tillhandahålla sitt passnummer och redress-nummer. Ett redress-nummer utfärdas av USA:s Department of Homeland Security för att motverka framtida förseningar för passagerare som identifierats felaktigt. Observera att passnummer och redress-nummer inte är obligatorisk information i dagsläget.
- Resenärsprofiler ska vara aktuella:
Det bästa sättet att försäkra sig om att SFPD finns med i resebokningen är att se till att den här informationen finns med i resenärsprofilen och att all information är korrekt och fullständig.

Amerikansk turistskatt
USA kommer att införa en turistskatt för alla som önskar resa till USA och som är medborgare i länder för vilka inget visum krävs, s.k. Visa Waiver countries, däribland Sverige, Norge och Danmark. Från och med den 8 september 2010 tas en skatt om 14 dollar ut av alla som ansöker om ESTA. Betalning kan endast erläggas med kontokort, av vilka American Express, Master Card och Visa accepteras.
Den som redan har en godkänd ESTA-ansökan eller som önskar förnya den, behöver inte betala turistskatten. Erhållet ESTA-tillstånd gäller i två år, dock som längst under passets giltighetstid. När man fått ett nytt pass, måste man ånyo ansöka om ESTA och får då betala turistskatten.

Information om ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization)
USA-resenärer måste från den 12 januari 2009 anmäla att de ska resa dit tre dygn i förväg på Internet. Reglerna gäller både turister och affärsresenärer. Reglerna, ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) har tagits fram av de amerikanska myndigheterna för att göra USA mer säkert mot terrorister. Informationen är samma som resenärer från Norden redan tidigare fyllt i på flyget när de åker till USA, blankett I-94 . Registreringen är obligatorisk från den 12 januari 2009. När man lämnat uppgifterna gäller de i två års tid, eller till dess att passet går ut.

Compensation in connection with volcano crisis traffic disturbances
Regarding request for compensation for extra cost incurred they should primarily be put forward to the airline according to the EC regulation (2004/261) regardless of how the trip is paid. See more detail on the EC regulation below.
Credit card companies and insurance companies should also be approached as usually credit cards include insurances covering delays and extra costs.
As for refunds American Express Business Travel will handle them in accordance with our normal procedures. This means that provided that an airline ticket, or part of an airline ticket, is refundable according to airline rules and provided it has been issued by us we will refund it. Please be aware that many airline companies are currently updating us with their ticketing rules. This in combination with our current workload will have an impact on the speed with which we can act on the respective refund requests. We therefore kindly ask for you patience.
EU passenger rights (Regulation 261/2004) apply even in exceptional circumstances for stand alone tickets (another regulation apply to packages).
Passengers have the right :
-
to receive information from airlines (e.g. on your rights, on the situation as it evolves, cancellations and length of delays), and
-
to care (refreshments and meals AND in case of re-routing : hotel accommodation where a stay of one or more additional night becomes necessary AND in case of re-routing transport between the airport and place of accommodation AND 2 phone calls, fax or emails free of charge). There is no limit in terms of duration to this right.

to chose between reimbursement of fares or be re-routed to final destination. This right covers:
- refund of the parts of the journey not used and for the parts of the journey already made, if the flight is no longer serving any purpose and where relevant a return flight to the first point of departure at the earliest opportunity OR
- re-routing under comparable transport conditions to their final destination at the earliest opportunity OR
- re-routing under comparable transport conditions to their final destination at a later date at the passenger's convenience.

New rules for bagage allowance
The rules for bagage allowance can vary substantially between airlines. We advice our clients to specifically check with the carrier if the bagage brought on a flight will be more than normal.
Effective 1st of April 2010, SAS changes the free baggage allowance in Economy Class on flights to/from the US to harmonize with other Trans Atlantic carriers.
The following now apply for SAS:
- Free baggage allowance in Economy Class: 1 x 23 kg (instead of the previous free baggage allowance of 2 x 23 kg)
- Excess charge rate for 2nd piece: EUR 40 / USD 50
- Passengers who want to bring extra 1 x 23 kg will be charged at the airport only, not at the time of booking
- All tickets issued on/after 1st of April 2010 will state the new baggage allowance
- Economy Class passengers holding tickets issued before 1st of April 2010 are allowed to bring 2 x 23 kg, as stated in their tickets
- Valid on both SAS operating and marketing flights
